Microhome

Microhome with modular construction for client Bruce who is looking to downsize.

The Microhome design focuses on prioritizing the separation between private and entertaining zones. The linear layout maximizes space and provides free-flowing and open circulation which is reinforced through the floor-to-ceiling unobstructed views of the courtyard that direct you throughout the modules. This structure utilized many sustainable systems such as solar panels over the shared parking spaces for power, condensation harvesting, rainwater, and wells for water, Hydraloop greywater system, septic system, mini split system, and geothermal energy for HVAC.

This modular home is a single-floor structure with unobstructed views. The majority of the windows face north to allow for natural lighting without the direct sun during summer. The gable roof with the skylights angled south allows for passive heating from the low sun during winter. To comply with Bruce’s requests, the bathroom entrance is disguised as built-in shelving with a designated space for his leg splint. The sleeping and working areas are combined and separated from the main living module since both activities can’t be performed simultaneously and require visual and acoustical privacy.
